October 21st - Last race of the year for Rialto, we trailered the car over to the Airport Drags for the second time since putting in the new motor. Below is his best time slip of that day. He got in 3 runs, the track broke for lunch and then started their Gambler Series, Bob paid his 20$ to compete and while starting the car to move up to the water box, the fuel pump froze with contamination. Again, Rialto has no concrete pad, weather was nice, not too hot, and the above is on a 27" tall, 10" wide slick.

The next weekend we removed the Mallory Fuel pump. Our previous setup was Tank - pump - filter, we cleaned the pump out, put it back together then changed the setup to tank - filter - pump. All ready for racing again, but Rialto is closed for the Winter.

November 15th - Thursday Night Test 'N Tune at Irwindale 1/8th mi. Drags. When they first opened about a month ago, they werent allowing any cars unless they were registered with insurance and DOT tires, which excluded Bobs '67. Bob attended last weeks event and asked one of the tech guys some questions and was told, "sure, bring it down", and sure enuf we got through tech and got an extension to our late start for racing this season. Bobs 2nd pass of the night was an all time fastest run with a 7.0 ET @ 97 mph and a 1.5 60' time.

On Bobs 3rd run, just past the 60', havoc reared its ugly head and something let go big time. Water was all over the track. We got a push from one of the safety trucks back to our trailer. Because it was night racing, it was kinda dark in the pits, we tryed looking for anything external with flash lights but couldnt find anything except fluid leaking from between motor and trans. We pushed it up into the trailer and took it home. With Thanksgiving coming, we really couldnt get to it for over a week.

November 24th - Sprinkles in the morning turned into heavy rain later in the afternoon. Thank goodness Bob has a garage. We removed the hood and started draining fluids and unbolting/disconnecting schtuff to pull the motor. Im sorta new to engine building and stuff, a few months ago i'd seen a 502ci that broke a valve and made a complete mess of the piston, but the carnage i saw today when we pulled the heads, eeesh! The No.1 cylinder is toast. One of the No.2 lifters broke also, which made a groove on the cam lobe. The drivers side head and oil pan dont look too bad. The crank also looks ok. The rods were LS6 Connecting Rods. We are unsure what let loose first, a rod or a valve. Anybody need a 396ci boat anchor?

Bob has been talking to some buds of his and looks like we might be picking up a 427ci block.

December - A buddy has a 454ci .030 over, ROSS lite weight 12:1 pistons w/reworked rods for $600. Bob is currently trying to get the money together for that. Xmas is kinda in the way. He also has a line on a steel crank for $250. Check back in January, should be lots going on!
